People still get gout?

March 28, 2011 at 4:41 am (Intro)

Okay. My foot hurts.  It’s been hurting for a few weeks and I haven’t done a lot to fix it.  I’ll elevate it, maybe grab an ice pack, but nothing too straining.  I guess I figured that it would just fix itself.

Apparently not.  Yesterday it hurt so badly and was swollen to the point that I could not actually bend it.  Yes, I was judging the state finals and limping around slowly and it sucked.  So I called the Advice Nurse.  She said that she could arrange for a doctor to call me today.  Sign me up!  I spoke with the dr and the dr recommended that I get some xrays and do blood work.  She said that the three most likely causes were a broken/fractured bone, an infection, or gout.

Excuse me, people still get gout?  I thought that was something just out of the history books! Oops.  Apparently gout is caused by a build-up of uric aric in your body, the same acid that causes kidney stones and other problems.  Good to know!  So we went in for xrays today and I’ll do bloodwork tomorrow.  Hopefully we will have a solution by the end of the week!  I would hate to go to Ecuador in pain like this!

Blessings to you all.
